Turn tiny terra-cotta pots and ordinary twine
into a soothing windchime.

bright

1. Lash the two tree branch pieces (about 12" long by 5⁄8" in diameter) together into a cross with thin jute twine.

2. Enlarge the drain hole in the bottom of each of 36 miniature 1" clay pots using an electric drill with a 1⁄8"-diameter drill bit. Cut four 36"-long pieces of medium jute twine. Using a glue gun, put a blob of glue about 30" from the end of the twine. String a pot, open-end first, on the twine too, so that the glob of glue is inside the pot. Place another blob of glue 2 3⁄8" up the twine from the first blobof glue, and then string another pot. Repeat until there are seven pots on each piece of twine. For the center string, cut a 38 3⁄8" piece of twine and glue on eight pots.

3. Tie the eight-pot string to the center of the lashed branches with a piece of medium twine. Space the top pot 3" from the branch, and leave a length of twine above the cross to make a loop to hang the windchime. Tie the other strings to the ends of the branches, with the top pot 3" from the branch and located such that when the cross is hung, it hangs evenly. Tie a miniature watering can to the bottom of each string 3" below the bottom pot.
