The All-American front porch. Watch the world go by at the slow-motion pace of your rocking chair. Deck enamel on the chairs — as well as the floor — keeps the livin’ easy.
hatever happened to hovering inside around the air-conditioner, watching TV and virtually ignoring the great, hot outdoors all summer long? We’ve rediscovered the pleasures of porch-sitting, that’s what, the quiet thrill of watching the sun slide into long, purple shadows and letting the world go by at the slow, metronome pace of rocking chairs, gently fluttering flags and tea steeping for late afternoon refreshment. Ah, summertime: it’s nothing like it was for those of us growing up during the inside-oriented 1950s and 1960s...and everything like it was for our grandparents and great-grandparents, who celebrated the steamy season outside on big, gracious porches that wrapped halfway around the house...and small porches, too — just big enough for a couple of wicker chairs and a table to hold your straw fan and flyswatter.
